Weather Report

To have a good idea for what we should place in the script for the weather report I looked at the clip below.

Here is the clip I looked at.

The weather reporter introduces himself first and then gets straight to the point drawing the user in with the image behind him. When he is talking about the weather forecast he turns and points at the image which I think is effective as he draws in the audience by pointing out particular regions on the map. He also starts off by mentioning today's weather then going to over night and then into tomorrow morning with the images on the map showing the change in time. There is also a Met Office weather warning displayed at the bottom of the page showing the real effect of that 'cold weather'. The day and the companies logo is also shown which I feel looks very professional which we need our report to be like. Finally at the end of the sequence he faces back to the camera showing the report is finished and a new clip appears showing the sponsors. Looking at this clip has given me a good idea of what to include in our report. I like all the features that have been used here as they are very effective in drawing the user in and obtains that professional image. I will now adapt these features to my design.

First filming day continued

After we filmed the cars on the A2 we went back to school to film the next part of the title sequence; the graph. First we had to create the graph on PowerPoint. Here is what we produced below.

We made the graph on PowerPoint and made the graph line have a custom animation so that when the mouse was clicked it expanded. This can be seen in the shots which we took below.

Here is the first shot we took of the animated graph. As you can see from the shot that we took it was not of good quality. The camera was not kept still on the tripod which had an impact on the overall quality. Also the camera was too zoomed in as the axis figures could not be seen. Also the camera was not in line correctly with the screen. So we had to film the shot again ensuring that we did not encounter the same problems.

We made sure that the camera was in line with the screen correctly and that the graph figures could be clearly seen. The shot was of good quality and the previous problems were solved, obviously we would cut out the first part of the clip but apart from that the clip was ready to be placed in the title sequence.

First filming day

Today was our first day of filming. We decided that we would start by filming the shots we needed for our title sequence. So during our media lesson we went out to a bridge over the A2.

Here are the shots which we took.

Here is the first shot which we took of the cars on the motorway. We set the camera up on the tripod and zoomed in on the cars as they passed by. This shot covered both flows of traffic which we changed in the other shots to see which looked best.

Here is the second shot which we took on a bridge over the A2. We left the camera in the same position but zoomed in on a particular flow of traffic so only cars in that direction were seen in the shot.

Here is the last shot which was taken on the bridge. Again we kept the camera in the same position by changed the focus to the opposite flow of traffic, zooming in so only the cars going in that direction could be seen.

Deciding Shot

Out of the three shots we both decided that we would use the first one taken which displayed both flows of traffic. Although all the shots were clear and of good quality, the first shot was most effective. So when we edited the shot we would speed the traffic up and then rewind. Hopefully this would create an interesting clip to add to the title sequence.

Mise-en-scene

Today we discussed what we would need to suit the mise-en-scene so we were ready to begin filming. As our news programme did not really evolve around any props there were only several things which we needed to have.

-Desk

-Interactive whiteboard

-Papers/laptop for the news presenter to have in front of them

-Printed scripts to give to cast (large print outs for weather girl to read while being filmed)

-Smart business like clothes for all of the cast

-Hoodies for the youths

-Empty cans/bottles

-'Clicker' for weather girl

-Backdrop to be projected on the whiteboard

-Weather report to be projected on the whiteboard

Storyboarding - title sequence

Today I drew up the different shots which we would include in our title sequence.

Here is the first shot which will be taken. Runi will be stood in front of the interactive board while a video/or picture of an interview with Donna is on the screen. After Runi has introduced the story the shot will change. The shots of Donna's interview will be shown while there will be a voice over as Runi continues to introduce the story. The camera will be fixed on the tripod and will remain in the same place throughout the shot. Then the title sequence will begin.

We are undecided whether we will place the interview of Donna in the first section of the title sequence while Runi introduces the main story or whether we will use a shot of some youths. When edited on Premier we will edit it to look like CCTV. As we are undecided we are going to film the youths to see which shot looks better when editing it all together. The youths will be filmed from above as they mess around outside; drinking, smoking pushing each other around. Then once Runi has finished establishing the story the title sequence will begin.

Here is the second shot which will be taken for the title sequence. After doing some research on ITV's title sequence we wanted to combine the new revamped sequence with old style one which feature around a shot of Big Ben. So we decided that we would film a short clip of the clock tower in Bexleyheath. The camera will be fixed to the tripod about 20 meters away from the clock. We will position the camera so it is tilted upwards and then zoom into the clock. This shot will be placed at the beginning of the sequence like the old ITV title sequence.

The third shot that would be taken was of some bad weather or travel conditions. We were not sure exactly what we would film but we decided that whatever we filmed would be done in Bexley as there are good transport connections there like the major roads which we could film if there was an accident, roadworks or traffic. We decided that if there was a day that had severe weather, whether it was hail, a storm, heavy rain or snow we said we would go out on that day to capture the footage. Again the camera would be fixed on the tripod as we filmed the shot.

The forth shot would be taken from a bridge of the cars on the A2. We wanted to speed the shot up when editing it in Premier and then reverse the shot. The camera would be fixed on the tripod and would remain in the same position throughout the shot. If needs be we will zoom in on the shot to how we want to cars to appear.

The last shot would be filmed in front of a computer. We decided that we would create a graph which was animated in PowerPoint. We would add custom animation so that the graph line moved when we filmed the shot. The camera would be placed on the tripod in front of the computer. We would adjust the zoom so that only the graph and not the computer itself could be seen in the shot.

Locations for title sequence

Now that we had decided on the list of shots that we would include in our title sequence we began to consider the locations where they could be filmed.

Shot list
1.Runi in the studio(we already had a location for the studio which we have already planned when discussing locations for the main content)
2.Youths
3.Clock tower
4.Bad weather/travel conditions
5.Traffic
6.Graph

Locations

For the filming of the youths we decided that we film them at school. This would make it easier for us to organise all those involved in the shot. Also we found a perfect location at school to film it. At the back of the main school building there is a small 'alley/pathway' which could be seen as a perfect location for youths to hang out. When the footage is edited on premier we would make the shots look like CCTV footage. The area does not get much light either so it is dark and dingy which adds to the look we wanted.

For the filming of the clock we tried to think of different places with a clock tower that were reasonably close by. Then we remembered that Bexleyheath had a clock tower along the high street. This was perfect for our programme as it had the same appearance of Big Ben which was used in ITV's old title sequence. So we decided that we would film the clock tower in Bexleyheath.

We were not exactly sure where we would film the bad weather/travel conditions yet, but had some idea that we would film in and around Bexley. It is close by and has good open areas where we can film so we decided that when there was a day of bad weather we would go to Bexley or nearby.

When deciding where we would film traffic from a bridge we both came up with the same idea. The A2 runs right near school and there are different bridges in Wilmington/Dartford that we could film from.

Finally it was obvious that the graph would have to be filmed from a computer as we would produced the file on PowerPoint. So we decided that we would film this bit of footage in F2 the media room, as the screen size would easily fit within the camera shot.

Content of the title sequence

After creating a diagram on the computer to help me combine all the title sequence together we selected the shots that we wanted to use. Here are the shots that we decided to use in our sequence:

1) Establishing shot of Runi in the studio - After looking at different title sequences we liked how ITV had a shot of their presenter introducing the main story.

2) Shot of youths - We are not sure whether we are going to use part of the interview with Donna at the start of the title sequence. While Runi is introducing the main story we will cut to a shot of either the youths or part of the interview with Donna while there is a voice over of Runi.

3) Shot of a clock tower - We wanted to combine ITV's old style title sequence with the new by taking a shot of a clock tower like how Big Ben was used.

4) Shot of bad weather/travel conditions - There is always a weather report in a news programme whether it is at the beginning, middle or end it is there. So we decided that we would try and film severe weather conditions. However we quite sceptical about this shot as the UK rarely ever sees 'extreme' weather so we decided that whenever the weather was quite bad we would go out filming as soon as possible.

5) Shot from a bridge - Most news programmes have a travel report now days so we decided that we would film a motorway from a bridge to resemble this.

6) Shot of graph - This will resemble the current economic climate which is featured in all news programmes daily so we decided that to resemble a real programme as best we could we needed to keep up with the trends.

Planning for title sequence

Here is a diagram I produced on the computer planning different footage we could use in our title sequence.

Title sequence clip

Today we looked at different ideas for the title sequence. I started off by looked at clips on YouTube of ITV's title sequence. I found the clip below which I thought was really effective in how it was all put together and the content in general.

The clip starts with the presenter introducing the top story as an image of the related story is projected behind him. Then the shot changes to a video of a soldier with the presenters comments as a voice over. Then the title sequence begins with different images of the topics which are going to be mentioned in that particular show. I think the way that the title sequence has been put together is very effective as it draws the viewer in as they get a 'sneak peak' at the stories which are going to be discussed with simple images. I really like this feature and will adapt it in our design. We will also have a shot of Runi at the beginning of the title sequence introducing the top story. The presenter has carefully selected specific words to draw the viewer in which we will try and do when putting Runi's script together. Where images have been used in the title sequence, we will shoot different clips instead of using images and cut them together to form our sequence.

As you can see from the image above the title sequence evolves around Big Ben. The camera appears to be in a helicopter showing an aeriel view of London from the Gherkin, to Canary Wharf to the London Eye. These shots catch the viewers attention and encourage audience involvement as it feels like you are in the helicopter viewing London like you have not done before. No images were used in the old style title sequence and it is just an establishing shot of the area the news reported is based on.

As we like the two very different title sequences ITV used we decided to combine them together having the traditional old style focus on the clock but providing viewers with images on the news to be discussed. With the changing trends in society we wanted to appeal to a wider audience combining the old with the new.

Theme Tune

After receiving conformation that we could use ITV's 'theme tune' for coursework related purposes we set about downloading the music.

Here is the site where we got the theme tune from.

Organising our time

Organising our time throughout the project was going to be hard due to Lauren having a job and our different social plans. However luckily me and Lauren both have the same free periods at school which means in a week we have 12 free lessons which we could work together on the project.

Sunday, 29 November 2009

Copyright permission

For the title sequence we wanted to use ITV News' theme tune. As the music was copyright we needed to gain permission before we used it in our news programme.

'To whom it may concern, We are two Media Studies students who are currently producing our own news programme and we would appreciate it if you would allow us to use a sample of the 'News at 10' theme tune in our title sequence. We would be very grateful with your support in this matter and look forward to hearing from you. Many Thanks Faye Allen & Lauren Mason.'

Here is the email we sent to ITV requesting permission to use their theme tune.

Storyboarding - main content

Today I drew up some storyboards of the shots which we planned to take for the news programme. Doing this allowed me to have a good idea of what the shots may look like once they are done. It also allowed me to see whether anything should be changed in advance rather than wasting time later on in the project.

Here is the first shot which will be taken. Runi will introduce all the stories on the news programme. She will be standing at this point in front of the interactive white board with a backdrop displaying SE1 News' logo and an image of the main story(graffiti). The camera will be on the tripod and kept in the same place throughout the shot.

Here is the second shot which will be taken. After Runi has introduced the top story the title sequence will then play. (I will discuss this later on in the project) Here Runi will introduce the topics which will also be discussed during the programme. She will then introduce Alison's report. Again the camera will be on the tripod again and fixed in one place throughout the shot.

Here is the third shot which will be taken. After Runi has introduced Alison's report this will be the next shot. Alison will talk about graffiti and whether it is art or ASBO? Then she will introduce PC Harding saying that she had an interview with her. The camera will be fixed on the tripod again however this time Alison will be walking along the wall so the camera will pan in the direction that she walks. There will also be several places where the camera will zoom in on Alison.

Here is the next set of shots which will be taken. In the interview the questions which were planned will be asked with the camera being stopped after every question so the shots are easier to edit later on. Alison will introduce the interview and then it will cut to the Donna. After looking at different news programmes in the interviews the person being interviewed is shot in a medium close up. This shows the reaction and emotion on their face as they discuss a topic. As we want our programme to be as professional as possible we used the same interview format used in 'real' news programmes. The camera will again be on the tripod and in a fixed position throughout the interview. After Donna's interview it will then cut back to Alison who will then introduce the next interview.

Here is the next set of shots which will be taken. After Donna's interview is shown it will then cut back to Alison who will introduce the next interview. Again the same questions will be used during the interview. We will use the same set up as the last interview having a medium close up of James showing his reaction and emotion when answering the questions. This will encourage audience involvement allowing them to relate to the topic being discussed. The camera will be fixed on the tripod again in the same position throughout the interview. After the interview shots are shown it will then cut back to Alison. Alison will then end the report and we will be back in the studio with Runi.

Here is the last set of shots which will be taken for the main content of the news programme. After Alison has ended her report Runi will then introduce Charlotte who will do the weather report. Charlotte will be stood in front of the interactive white board where a weather report will be projected behind her. The camera will on the tripod and fixed in one place throughout the shot. The only light in the room will just be on Charlotte so that what is being projected on the board can be seen clearly. Once Charlotte has done her report it will cut back to Runi who will end the news programme.

News Presenter

Here is the script we put together for the news presenter to say.

'Report released today shows 33% rise in anti-social behaviour. Is this what the generation want to spend their time doing, or is it simply because they have nothing to do? Good evening and welcome to SE1 NEWS. Our main stories tonight.... Strong blizzards to hit parts of the UK. A fall in interest rates hits the banking system hard. Our top story tonight, over recent years the younger generation have been portrayed in a bad light, with a break down in relationships within our society, who's to blame? Here is Alison Roddy reporting from Erith...... Thank you Alison some interesting thoughts. Over the past week we have received lots of home videos sent in from you at home showing how your coping with the snow..... Looks like some of us are having fun! Hows the weather looking for the next couple of days Charlotte? Thank you Charlotte well hopefully it will start to brighten up soon! Now thank you from SE1 NEWS centre goodbye'

News reporter

Here is the script we put together for the news reporter to say.

'Graffiti Art or ASBO? To some it's art but to the majority of communities it's vandalism. With a rise of 33% in anti-social behaviour we ask ourselves what can be done? In an interview with PC Donna Harding this is what she had to say. (interview with Donna is shown) It affects all areas from the police force to members of the public. Speaking to a local church youth worker, these were his thoughts. (interview with James is shown) Alison Roddy reporting from Erith. Back to the studio'.

Cast

Now that we are ready to begin filming we set about asking people to be part of our news programme. We needed a news presenter, a weather girl and a news reporter.

For the news presenter we wanted someone who was confident and had the abilities of a presenter. So we decided that we would ask Runi to be our news presenter.

Name: Fahmina (Runi) Ali
News Reporter
Costume: Smart business wear/ suit/ blouse

For the weather girl again we needed someone who was confident and 'bubbly'. Weather reports are quite relaxed and we wanted to put this trate in our report. So we decided to ask Charlotte to be our weather girl.

Name: Charlotte Myers
Weather Girl
Costume: Smart clothes/ dress/ suit jacket/ heels

Finally for the news reporter we wanted someone who was assertive who had a serious tone. So we decided to ask Alison Roddy to be our news reporter.

Name: Alison Roddy
News Reporter
Costume: Smart clothes/ suit/ shirt

Here are some of the female news presenters at ITV.

Mary Nightingale

Katie Derham

Faye Barker

As you can see from all the pictures above all the women are wearing smart business like clothes when presenting ITV News. This gives the programme a professional look and if the women look serious this aids the serious topics they discuss during the programme.

Planning for the scripts

After planning what footage we needed for the news programme we began to plan the script. When filming the news centre we needed the news presenter to get straight to the point in introducing the top story. Each word needs to be selected carefully so that they sound dramatic adding to the seriousness of the subject to be discussed. To get more of an idea of what we will get the news presenter to say when introducing the ASBO story I will analyse the clip below.

Here is the clip which I looked at to help us decide on a script to give to our chosen news presenter.

'The ultimate sacrifice of a soldier who saved countless lives. Killed by a Taliban bomb days before he was due to see his wife and his son'.

The presenter gets straight to the point using abrupt sentences to show the meaning of the stories and the importance of each topic. The words 'Ultimate' and 'Sacrifice' are harsh words showing the in depth meaning of the story to come. It also covers how life is not fair as he saved 'Countless lives' with an emotional aspect at the end of the quote 'before he was due to see his wife and his son'. This short but effective sentence is what we would like to use at the beginning of our news programme. It draws the viewer in and shows the seriousness and the reality of what is happening around the world which most people are naive about.

We need to careful put together a short quote for our news presenter to say to encourage audience involvement and introduce a serious issue.

Location continued

After contacting James and Donna they both agreed to do the interviews. As our news programme was going to feature news in the south east the interviews would be done in this region. The interviews will both be filmed inside the place of work.

Donna would be filmed at Belvadere Police Station which is a well known area and fits into the culture of our programme. PC Harding will know Belvadere and the surrounding areas well, providing us with a good source of information in answering the interview questions.

Also we would film James where he worked. Again he will provide us with a good source of information for our questions as he works with trouble teenagers in Howbury Community Centre in Erith which is in the south east again applying to the culture of the programme. Shooting the footage in these places will give the news programme a professional look and also resemble a real programme.

The last part of the footage on the main story involves a news presenter walking along by some graffiti so we needed to find possible locations. Lauren found a park near her house which had great amount of graffiti which would look great in our news programme. The graffiti is brightly coloured and eye catching which we wanted in the shot so that Alison stood out against the background. To get a good representation of anti-social behaviour we decided to film the graffiti there in the same sort of area where the interviews would take place. This would also make what was said in the interviews more 'real' as what they are saying can be seen through the shots of the graffiti. As our news programme focused on stories in the south east doing all the filming in these areas applied to the culture of the programme and make the content seem more realistic.

Deciding on the Location

Today we started to discuss where we could actually film all of the content for our news programme. We needed to find a good location for our news studio where we would film our news presenter. The room where we would film needed to be reasonably spacious so we had a good filming area and there also would need to be a desk near the board. It also needed to have an interactive white board or over head projector so we could display a backdrop for the news presenter to sit in front of. Together we decided that we would film the news centre somewhere at school. Here is the list of possible rooms we came up with:

1) G13 room number 1

The room is very spacious and has an interactive white board. The only problem with this room is that there are no blinds so the light may not be able to be controlled to exactly how we want it. There is a desk which can be moved infront of the white board creating that news studio look. The room is freqently used for lessons so we would need to carefully plan when the room is free and when we are free to film.

2) F2 Media room

The room is very spacious and has an over head projector so we can project any features that we need on the board. The room also has a desk which can easily be moved to where we want it to be placed. The only issue is that when the over head projector projects something on the wall it is not lined up correctly so it does not look very professional. We want our programme to be as realistic as possible and this would be a huge problem which cannot be solved.

3) The learning Centre

The building is very spacious and has an interactive white board. There are no obstacles blocking the board and the over head projector is lined up correctly. There is a desk but unfortunately it cannot be moved, however half of the desk is in front of the interactive board. The lighting in the room can also be altered so we can easily control the light reflecting on the board to make the shots look as professional as possible.

After looking at possible locations for the 'news centre' we decided that filming in G13 would be the best option. The room has all the features that we need for our programme and resemble a real news room which is what we want.

Logo

We liked the simplistic look of ITV's logo and wanted to apply this simplistic nature to our logo. The title is short but effective. The yellow contrasts against the black and catches your eye. The capital 'NEWS' makes the word seem urgent and again catches your eye. We wanted to use these features in our designs.

Now that we had decided the name of the news programme the construction of the logo could now begin. We decided that we would create a logo as it was a feature used in all of the news programmes looked at and gave them an interesting edge. Here are the different logos we designed:

The first logo designed had an 'S' shaped symbol and then SE1 NEWS after it. Using ITV NEWS's logo as our inspiration we kept the design simple. We used some colour in the 'S' object to give the logo an appealing image.

The second design had SE1 NEWS as the centre piece and then abstract coming off of it. Again we kept the design simple and chose not to use colour this time to give us a range of choices to choose from.

The third design had the same features as the previous two designs but the focus point was the object in the middle. We chose to use this object as it was almost like an eye which are used to focus leading to SE1 NEWS focusing on the south east.

The final design was the simplest out of all 4 designs. The main focus was the the text; 'SE1 NEWS' with a globe symbol linking to it. The design although it was simplistic and lacked colour looked interesting and had a professional image, exactly what we needed for our news programme.

CHOSEN DESIGN

When making the different designs we changed the fonts, colours, layouts and symbols to give us a range of options to choose from. Out of all the logo designs that were created we decided to use the final design as it was perfect for representing our news programme. The logo would be used on the website, in the title sequence and in the actual news programme itself.

We decided to place 'SE1' on the logo as this would be the name of the programme; SE1 NEWS. SE1 is a postcode for areas in and around London, standing for the south east. As the content of the news would be based on things happening in the southeast area this seemed an appropriate name to use.

Naming the news programme

After doing my initial research on different news programmes they all focused on a particular region. Sky News focuses on world news as well as UK news, Channel 4 News focuses on international news, BBC News looks at world news as well as London based news; 'BBC London Tonight' and ITV News mainly focus on UK based news. So we decided that the news covered in the programme would be in areas in the South East of England. ITV News has a short title which gets straight to the point so we wanted a name with the same effect. Here are the options which we considered:

- News Now

- News on the GO

- SE1 News

- News from the SE

The one which stood out at us was SE1 News. We came up with this idea by combining 'south east' within a post code. The post code 'SE1' represents southern areas of London. The logo is short and sweet but gets straight to the point. So we decided SE1 NEWS was the name for our news programme.

Emails

Here are prints screens of the emails sent between us and PC Donna Harding.

Originally we were going to meet with a PCSO Clare Watts but she passed us over to PC Donna Harding who sent us an email.

PC Donna Harding agreed to let us interview her so we managed to arrange two interviews, one with an officer and another with a church youth worker. Hopefully the two interviews would provide us with good content for our news programme.

Monday, 19 October 2009

Plan of content continued

To introduce the interviews we wanted footage of a news reporter in an area of vandalism. We thought that we could film a reporter maybe walking along by graffiti discussing the current issues. After analysing the features used in news programmes I liked how it had been used and wanted to use it in our programme. We thought that doing this would attract the viewers attention as having the graffiti in the background makes what the reporter is talking about reality. We would find an area of bright coloured graffiti which grabs the viewers attention and makes the reporters words real as they can see the problem for themselves on screen making the problem urgent.

All this footage including the interviews would make up the majority of the news programme. When doing my initial research on news programmes it appeared that most of them start with the main presenter sitting in the studio introducing the stories which will feature in the programme. When doing my research I thought it looked very effective having the news reporter sat behind a table/desk holding papers or a laptop as they look assertive and professional. We decided that we would use this idea creating our own studio somewhere with a news reporter introducing the programme sat behind a desk. They would be filmed introducing the news programme and main stories and then ending the programme.

The last piece of footage we would film for the main content of the programme would be a weather report. As discussed previously all news programmes feature a weather report whether it be at the beginning, middle or end of the programme. So we decided that at the end of the programme we would have a quick weather report.

Continuing the plan

Today we continued to plan the main content of the news programme. At the moment we decided that we wanted an interview with a PCSO or a PC about anti-social behaviour as part of the main content. Just in case that for some reason we could not film a PCSO or a PC we decided to do an interview with a community church youth worker. Again we felt that he would be perfect for our news programme as he works with troubled teenagers.
Lauren was good friends with a community church youth worker; James Heath so she emailed him asking whether he would help us in producing an interview for our news programme. We hoped that he would have good views on ASBO and why the children he worked with committed the offences.

Here are the print screens of the emails which were sent between us and James.

James agreed to do the questions so we had one of our interviews ready and planned.

Interview questions

While we waited for replies from our emails we thought up a list of questions which we could ask in the interviews.

1) From your own experiences what do you believe are some of the main causes of anti-social behaviour?
2) What suggestions would you give to combating anti-social behaviour and making those who are offending understand the wrong they are doing?
3) In your opinion do you believe that anti-social behaviour is on the decrease since the introduction of PCSOs.
4) What are your views on the new Policing Pledge and do you feel that this is a positive step forward?
5) Do you feel that there are enough PCSOs and police officers patrolling the area and why?
6)Why did you chose to become a PCSO/PC/Youth Worker?
7)Do you think that there is a certain group that are commonly known for being involved in anti-social behaviour?

We would use these questions for the PCSO/PC and the youth worker, adapting them where necessary.

Email to PCSO

Here is the email which we sent to the Bexley PCSO team asking about an interview:

'Hi, our names are Lauren and Faye and we are currently studying A2 Media at The Grammar School For Girls Wilmington. However Lauren lives in Erith and we thought that you would probably be the best team to ask. As part of our coursework we are creating a 5 minute news report and we have decided on the topic of Anti-Social Behaviour. We were just wondering if it would be possible for us to do a 2 minute interview with a member of your team? Many Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you soon! Lauren & Faye.'

Here is a print screen of the email we sent to the PCSO. Once we sent the email we then went on to planning the other content of the news programme as all we could do now on the interview front was wait for a reply.

Planning for news programme

Now that we decided that we would do a feature on ASBO focusing on vandalism, we began to plan the shots that we would need. With the focus on vandalism we wanted to include some interviews in the news programme. In all the news programmes I looked at this feature was regularly used so we wanted to transfer this into our own programme.

We thought that we would interview those who were directly involved in ASBO to get their views on the matter. So we decided that we would try and get an interview with a police officer or a PCSO. They are directly involved with these issues from day to day and we wanted to get an upfront view from authority.

Recently the police force have introduced a new scheme the Policing Pledge. We looked at this website to get an idea of how to go about contacting someone to interview.

Here is a print screen of the website we looked at. The pledge is made up of 11 different commitments to try and make London a safer place.

On the website we found a general enquires form which we thought we could use to email a PC/PCSO about our coursework and see if they would be willing to let us have an interview.
